John L. Smith has more than forty-five years of experience in public education. He has served as a teacher, school principal, and central office administrator. He retired in 1996 as Deputy Superintendent of the New Orleans Public School District in New Orleans.
After retirement, he entered the corporate world as Executive Vice President of AME, Inc. and Regional Sales Advisor for the McGraw-Hill Companies. He is currently serving his 26th year as an elected member of the St. Charles Parish School Board in Louisiana. He is also a Superintendent Search Consultant for the firm McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C.
